THE CURRICULUM AND ITS ORGANISATION
OUR VISION STATEMENT:
Our professional team offers a stimulating learning environment that values effort and attainment and celebrates achievement. In partnership with parents, we will enable pupils to become creative thinkers and independent learners.
Our vision is that pupils will develop confidence and self-esteem and will show consideration, respect and care.
Midsomer Norton Primary School will teach knowledge, skills and values that prepare children for life in a diverse society.
OUR GOALS:
* Our pupils will maintain high levels of achievement in core subjects
* Our pupils will develop a better understanding of cultural diversity
* Our pupils will become independent learners
* Our staff development programme will impact on pupil achievement
BELIEFS AND VALUES:
You will see from our Vision Statement that we take a very positive approach to the education of children, celebrating their successes whenever possible. We recognise and encourage kindness and thoughtfulness and work to raise self-esteem through a weekly "circle time" when discussions take place on moral, cultural or social issues.
The results of our tests show that our pupils achieve very high academic results, and we endeavour to provide the right opportunities for each child to reach their full potential.
It is difficult to know what kind of work we are preparing children for this new century, but we are united in our belief that we are education the "whole" child for their place in society. At this school, we believe that as well as skills and knowledge, our pupils will need to be adaptable, will need to approach problems with creative solutions and must care about others and their environment. Accessing and interpreting information is a high priority and the children are able to use our Computer Suite to learn ICT skills but also to use it as a tool that supports other learning. We also have a strong commitment to the arts - music, dance and visual art.
We organise learning in different ways to suit all abilities and subjects. In practice this may take the form of whole class lessons, group or individual teaching. Sometimes, classes are grouped together for say music, so that expert teaching can take place.
We are constantly looking at new and better ways of teaching and learning and are not afraid to change things and keep up-to-date.
CURRICULUM RESPONSIBILITIES:
To ensure up-to-date teaching of the highest standard, each teacher takes responsibility for a curriculum subject. They receive training in new initiatives and share their expertise with the staff. The table below shows staff responsibilities for this year.
