MIDSOMER NORTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

OUR SCHOOL - PAST AND PRESENT

Our School in 2003

Our school is ideally situated in the High Street of MIdsomer Norton, set well back from the road, with a large playground surrounding the buildings.

The infant and junior departments are housed in the main building, on a split-level site, and enjoy  bright, spacious classrooms, a superb library and computer suite. Key Stage One comprises of three parallel classes of Years 1&2. Key Stage Two comprises of three parallel classes of Years 3&4 and Years 5&6.
We have also added new office buildings which house the Headteacher's office, teachers office and a Reception area. Our school roof has just been replaced and are in the process of updating our toilet facilities for the children throughout the school.

We have recently up-dated our playgrounds by adding new play equipment. Click here to find out more.

The Computer Suite.

Computer Suite

Our ICT suite has fourteen PC's with a variety of software. Our computers have been grouped together and networked so that the skills and knowledge of Information Technology can be taught effectively. We have an Internet connection for supervised use and an email facility, preparing our children for communication skills in the new millenium. Our ICT suite also includes an Interactive Whiteboard, digital microsopes and a scanner for the children's use.

Classrooms are provided with laptops, and we are in the process of equipping classrooms with their own Interactive Whiteboards.

Library

We have an excellent library next to the computer suite, with a computerised loan system. All children, including the Nursery children, use the library to borrow books and older children also do research here. Our library system software is used by the children to find out about the types of books on loan, and to publish reviews on the computer network for others to read.

Our Library is supported by many volunteer librarians, who help the children to find, take out and return books using the computerised system.

They also ensure that all books are returned to the correct place on the shelves!

The Nursery Play Area.

Nursery and Reception Buildings

Our Nursery is sited in a separate building on the edge of the school grounds. It has its own garden, and we have recently provided a new play area for the children to use trucks and trikes, and play outside within a safe, fenced area. Two classrooms are sited on the edge of the playing field, and these are used as a base for the Reception children, giving them a special area of their own, with their own cloakrooms and outside area. They often share the Nursery play area, and join the main school for assemblies and playtimes in the Spring and Summer term.

Conservation Garden and School Field

We have a conservation garden within the school grounds, which is regularly used by the pupils. It contains a large pond, a weather station, and a variety of trees and shrubs.

Our school field is found at the back of the school site and is enclosed by trees. It is used for team games, sports fixtures and PE - as well as for cartwheels and daisy chains when the weather is fine. Staff, children and parents recently planted hundreds of saplings around the perimeter of our school field, to provide beautiful trees for the future.
