MIDSOMER NORTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

ADMISSION TO OUR SCHOOL

We recognise that children's learning begins at home and that parents will want to feel sure that Midsomer Norton Primary School is a happy learning environment for their children. We offer many opportunities to show you our school so you will know that you have chosen the best school for your child.

Nursery.

You need to be thinking about a place for your child 12 to 18 months before they need a place and you need to contact us. We offer Nursery places for children who are three years old before 1st September. We hand out the application forms approximately one year before you need the place. The forms are sent to the Local Education Authority, who allocate the places.

The Nursery Classroom.

Reception.

The main school offers September places for children who have had their fourth birthday by the 1st September. You still have to apply for a school place even if your child is at our Nursery.

First of all, you may want to make an appointment to come and look around and see for yourself the school during it's working day and meet the Headteacher, Mrs. Hope. You will want to ask questions and look into our classrooms, perhaps to talk to teachers if they are free. You may want to look at other schools before making your decision, and this is fine of course. You need to be doing this approximately one year before you need the place.

We will offer you two forms:

* A form that gives us your address so we can keep you informed of further parent invitations to the school, without obligation or commitment.

* A form that is issued by the Local Education Authority to enable you to register your request for a place. You send this directly to the LEA, unless the closing date is past, in which case you can return it direct to the school direct - if there are still places left.

All schools have a standard number of children they can accept each year and they cannot exceed this number. If the school is full because it has reached the standard number, paents can make an appeal to the Local Education Authority if they feel their circumstances are exceptional. The number for our school is 45 children, which we divide into two small reception classes.

During the Summer Term, usually in June, we invite all new parents to a visit, to find out more about the school, to ask questions and to have another look around if they want to.
